Bryan Lewis
With deep sadness we said goodbye to beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend- Bryan William Lewis. He was born on July 1, 1962, to Sondra (Knight) Lewis and Charles Lewis, Jr. He passed away on July 20, 2026, after a short and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 64 years old. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
Bryan was married to his wife and partner in life, Sheri (Mathes) Lewis. They were married for an adventurous 40 years. Bryan and Sheri have three children; Shanelle Lewis-Ward (Gareth Ward), Brady Lewis (Whitney Lewis), and Curtis Lewis (Natalie Lewis). They have five grandchildren: Josie Lewis, Walter Lewis, Eleanor Lewis, Arla Ward, and Owen Lewis. Bryan is survived by his parents and his two siblings, Roxanne Lewis and Kevin Lewis. He will be remembered by his in-laws, Scott & Susan Mathes, Gina Mathes, and his nieces and nephews, Lauren Mathes (Logan Waters), Alayna Mathes, Shelby Stotts (Cary Stotts), and Reagan Stotts.
Bryan graduated from Zanesville High School, class of 1980. Bryan was preceded in death by his closest friend, Tom Weeks, two weeks prior to his own passing. Bryan will be remembered by Tom Weeks’ family, Mike Fritz, Greg Bell, and Mike Emmert and their families. Bryan was considered a good friend to many, and his loss will be felt immensely.
Bryan had many interests. He loved camping with his family and friends, hunting, traveling, music, cooking, and most of all, spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Bryan had a passion for woodworking and creating special gifts for his loved ones. He built multiple dulcimers, a ukulele, a hope chest, wooden handled knives, jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes, benches, he built his own homes, and two cabins. His most special project was designing and building custom tables for each of his children’s families. These beloved gifts will be treasured forever.
He loved his work as a carpenter and builder, following in his father’s footsteps and owning his own company, Bryan Lewis Builders. For the past eight years, he enjoyed his role as Construction Manager at Stoneworks in Newark. He will be remembered by many close coworkers and acquaintances.
He loved contributing to his community, organizing many events and cooking for charities over the years. When his sons were younger, he enjoyed participating as a Boy Scout Leader. He found fulfillment in mentoring youth and acting as a role model. He built the Pack 98 Pinewood derby track, and lead many activities and campouts.
Those who were fortunate to know Bryan, knew him to be extremely generous, hilarious, the life of the party, welcoming, an animal lover, an excellent chef, a skilled wood craftsman, a hard worker, and dedicated to his loved ones.
He died peacefully with a smile on his face; we like to think that when he left this world, he was thinking of his family.
