Old Nashport Water Project

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum County has an overall abundance of water, however there remain properties that do not have good sources or access to the much needed resource.  

Several of those residents live throughout the Nashport area and have petitioned for public water in the past but the cost of installing a public water system across the rural expanse is an expensive endeavor. 

“Today was a meeting about the Old Nashport area. We ended up sending blue interest cards to see what kind of interest there were… in let’s say county water. We had the… some of them come back. We had a little bit more negative responses than we were anticipating. So that was what the meeting was about, was what to do from there,” Muskingum County Assistant Projects Director Zack Forker

Members of the county water and sewer projects department met with the Muskingum County Commissioners who advised them to better express how residents can benefit from having access to public water.  

“So the benefits would be potable, clean water for the area, fire suppression, if your power went out you would never be out of water service because water is served by gravity. Things of that nature that would help the public health in that area. Water is kind of a need. It’s one where the county has always been interested in serving those that are in need of water,” Forker said.

The water project is still in its initial stages of gathering the number of potential customers, which would indicate the basic financial requirements needed to bring the project to life.
