Candidate for secretary of state visits Zanesville NAACP
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A candidate in the race for Ohio’s Secretary of State visited the Zanesville NAACP unit as part of her campaign trail.
Democratic candidate for secretary of state and Ohio State Representative Allison Russo attended the NAACP’s monthly general body meeting. She spoke to those in attendance about what her priorities would be should she win the November election.
“This is an 88 county strategy to introduce voters to who I am but also why this office of secretary of state is so critically important. If you don’t have access to the power of your vote, you don’t have an accountable government that works for you,” Russo said. “You don’t have local leadership that is accountable to the people in making decisions that are best for the community. That all comes down to voting. ”
Kyle Johnson is the president for the local NAACP unit and believes this is the first time a candidate has reached out to the organization as part of the campaign trail.
“We’re glad to have Representative Russo, Allison Russo, come and speak at our unit meeting today, at our general body meeting. She’s a friend of the NAACP and it’d be nice to have Sprague come out and also speak and reach out to the NAACP units and, you know, help us continue our efforts with voter education and advocacy,” Johnson said.
