Entire Facility On Board

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Large scale operations require enormous coordination and facilitation. Such is the case with bringing a nationally recognized sporting extravaganza back to Zanesville.

Gus Macker Zanesville Executive Chairman Dominique Proctor announced that Zane State, the YMCA and Ohio University Zanesville jointly agreed to share the entire facility to host next summer’s Gus Macker 3-on-3 tournament basketball event.

“And so we were figuring out through the majority of that time, where we place baskets, where we’re going to put the parking. And then actually on Thursday, a few of us from that committee will be going out there to finalize the OK, where are we going to put vendors, where are we going to put concessions, where do we want to put the overflow of the parking. You know, where do we want to use maybe the greenspace that YMCA provided. Is this where we want to put like extra activities? So just kind of getting a good feel,” Proctor said.

The national Gus Macker organization will be visiting Zanesville in September to make a final review of the site and observe the gameplan that the local committee is putting in place before signing the contract to establish the official tour dates.

“So after Labor Day, is when they’ll start doing their contract signings for the 2027 tournaments,” Proctor said. “And so they’ll come down, they’ll do their final site review of the venue and then they’ll give us a specific, written-out contract for Zanesville. It’s a 3-year commitment with a 1-year opt-out. So if 2027 doesn’t go the way it should or what we think it should have went, then we could opt out very easily.”

Proctor mentioned that the Macker organization likes Zanesville and appreciates the tour locations that have a tight-knit community support. He also anticipates being able to make an official announcement later next month.
