Zanesville Police vs. Zanesville Fire ‘Tug of War’

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – United Way’s ‘Tug of War’ campaign kick-off between Zanesville Police Department and Zanesville Fire Department is less than a month away.
Today Zanesville Police Captain Chris Phipps and Zanesville Fire Chief Eric Waltemire took donation displays to their sponsoring businesses. Donald’s Donuts is sponsoring the Zanesville Police Department. Capt. Phipps said Donald’s Donuts sponsoring the police department was a natural fit.

“Even just people just slightly giving money even just some tips or whatever to the donation jar to help us out,” Capt. Phipps said. “It all goes to [United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties]. So it’s not so much for us it’s for them, but you know obviously we want to raise more than the [Zanesville Fire Department], because we deserve it more.

“Just like the [Zanesville Police Department] bought a lot of donuts up at Donald’s Donuts, we’ve bought a lot of ice cream sundaes here,” Chief Waltemire said. “We encourage the public to stop by Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, we are placing a boot here to raise funds. So I’d encourage people to put their pocket change, dollar bills in there, whatever they’d like to contribute to help us fund raise for this event.”
All the money raised for the Zanesville Police Department will go towards United Way’s education services, while Zanesville Fire Department’s donations will go toward United Way’s health services. The ‘Tug of War’ event will take place September 14, 2017 at 6:00 P.M. in the Muskingum Family Y Park Central.
