John McIntire Elementary School Soaring to New Heights with Balloon Launch

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- John McIntire Elementary hosted a symbolic ceremony on the first day of school for their students.

Teachers at John McIntire Elementary chose soaring to new height as this years theme and to help illustrate that, teachers and students launched around 75 balloons. Principal, Mike Emmert, said the theme will hopefully let kids see there is always from to grow to new heights in education.

“Ultimately we want the kids to understand we are part of a growth mindset and every year can be better than the previous year. No matter what the previous year or the previous day or the previous couple of minutes look like.”

With the balloon launch, Emmert hopes the kids understand there is no limit to their success.

“Ultimately we want to set goals with kids and really focus on setting goals with kids this year. So yeah, we ultimately want the kids to understand that there is no limits to their success and education is the way to get there.”

Emmert compared opening day to the Super Bowl for teachers as it’s the biggest day of the year and something they look forward to.
