ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Juvenile Court is working to get their roof replaced with the help of a state grant.

Court director, Robert Smith, met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to seek permission to apply for the grant. The funds would assist with the total cost for a project that Smith said has proven to be necessary.

“We have a building that’s approximately 17 or 18 years old which means the roof is that old. We’ve had a chronic problem with the leaks over the last 3 years. The maintenance department has worked hard to repair the leaks but we keep having leaks,” said Smith.

The grant is available through the Ohio Department of Youth Services for capital improvements. If granted, 60% of the project cost would be covered, leaving the county responsible for the remaining 40%. To calculate an estimate for the project, bids would open to multiple roofing companies in the area.

“We’ll be working with the maintenance department to secure some bids that we can attach to our grant application,” said Smith.

The deadline for the state grant application is September 21st.
