ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. That’s why The Barn is hosting the second annual Dunk-a-Doc fundraiser.

In partnership with Senior Health Connect and the Physician’s Group of Southeast Ohio, the event brings 14 local physicians to the dunk tank where you can try out your throwing arm for a great cause.

“For me, having a family member that was afflicted by this disease, it’s very rewarding to be able to just host and see the camaraderie and the people come together, to try to come up with fun ways to fight for a cause,” said Jim Watson, the owner of The Barn.

We had some people last year that probably couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat, so I hope they’ve been practicing,” said Shelly Dunmyer, a local family physician.

Dunk-a-Doc is part of a national Walks to End Alzheimer’s disease and helps fund research to end an affliction that over 7 million people and their families are dealing with.

“Through events like Dunk-a-Doc and the support of our local community, we were able to raise over $20,000 last year for the Zanesville Walk. And those fundraising dollars go directly to research and development to find a cure for the disease,” said Kayla King from PGSEO Senior Health Connect.

“For me, it’s the work that I do with our patients and knowing the impact that Alzheimer’s disease has on our patients and their families. That’s enough motivation for me,” said John Dodson from PGSEO Senior Health Connect.

The Dunk-a-Doc event takes place on Aug. 15 from noon to 3 p.m. at The Barn, which is located at 1947 Linden Avenue in Zanesville. There will also be raffles, football squares, and live music. You can learn more by visiting The Barn’s Facebook page.
