United Way kicks off an act of kindness campaign with a gift to Head Start

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- United Way is hoping to brighten someone’s day and is encouraging the community to participate.
United Way of Muskingum-Perry-Morgan’s annual random acts of kindness campaign is kicking off September 14th and United Way gave the first act of kindness today by donating books to the Muskingum County Head Start.
“When we were brainstorming ideas we thought it would be so awesome to give a donation for the youth in the community at the Head Start Program.” said Resource Development Director of United Way, Katie McNeil.
The donated books come from the Friends of the Library as well as McNeil’s personal collection and Executive Director of Head Start, Jeri Johnson said they are a blessing.
“We are very appreciative, we can’t have enough books. Our school readiness goals do language and literacy so it’s really important for us to have these plus we have opened three new centers so the more books the better. We have to put 25 in a classroom every day and we change them as our studies change and this is going to be a tremendous help.”
Now, United Way is encouraging others to give a random act of kindness and included a list of suggestions.

“It’s really all about building community and these are just some really simple ways that you can help a friend, help a neighbor, help a stranger. So it’s a great year to live united.” said Community Impact Director of United Way, Becky Clawson.
If you give a random act of kindness, United Way encourages you to share it on social media by using the hashtags #rac and #liveunitedmpm
