New student art award categories at this years Salt Fork Arts and Crafts Festival

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – The 56th Annual Salt Fork Arts and Crafts Festival is officially in full swing at the Cambridge City Park.

The weekend-long event started at noon on Friday with more than 75 artists showcasing their work. One of the featured tents at the festival highlights the artistry of school children from Guernsey and neighboring counties. The Student Arts Tent features almost 700 unique pieces of art.

“The most important part is kids get a chance to show what they can do. It’s important that we see all the potential in our kids and give families a chance to have a great interaction and see how wonderful their kids are, give families a chance to celebrate that possibility and have some great memories,” said Stephanie Bridwell, the student art chair for the festival. “We have several that have done this, even the parents have done this tent. So when they can have that, make this a tradition within their family, it really is something special.”

Several of the students’ artwork will win awards at the Salt Fork Arts and Crafts Festival, including two new award categories, Science Meets Art and Creative Construction.

“One of the things that we’ve noticed is many of our kids are doing very detailed projects. Either 3D printing, or almost engineering drawings, or with their clay they are using, you know, making houses. We even have entries from Deerasic Art Camp where they did fizzy painting,” Bridwell said. “So, they’re able to take natural materials or things and make art out of it. So it’s a cool use of something and it shows that art can be anything. ”
