Sheridan, John Glenn ready for MVL clash Friday

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – After only two weeks of high school football there is only one MVL team left undefeated.
The John Glenn Little Muskies have opened the season with two non-conference wins, handling Meadowbrook and Cambridge with ease. The John Glenn defense has given up just six points total in the first two games of the season.
That’s a stat that doesn’t surprise third year head coach Matt Edwards.
“Anybody that has listened to me, I told them that I thought our defense would surprise some people because we had so many people who have played on Friday nights. They’re a veteran group and they’re athletic,” said Edwards.
Friday will be JG’s toughest test of the season when they welcome Sheridan to McConagha Stadium for their first MVL game. The Generals rebounded from their week one loss to Licking Valley with a convincing win over Maysville last Friday 33-18.
Sheridan coach Paul Culver III knows his young offense will have their hands full when they travel to New Concord to battle John Glenn’s defense.
“They’re fast and they got off blocks. I think it was Doug Clifford on a WHIZ broadcast who said that their defense is allergic to blocks. I love that saying. They tackle well and it has to be execution and a little bit of want to this week,” said Culver III.
Both teams have senior quarterbacks who are in their first season as a starter. For Sheridan it’s Ethan Heller, who made the move from the defensive side of the ball. John Glenn has all-MVL basketball player Justin Heacock behind center. Through two weeks Heacock has thrown for 472 yards and six scores.
The game will air on Z92 Radio. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and pregame coverage from McConagha Stadium will start at 6:30 p.m.
