Marcellus Smith

Marcellus “Mark” L. Smith, III, 58, of Columbus, Ohio went home to be with The Lord and Savior on September 4, 2026 surrounded by his family. Mark was born March 10, 1968 to Marcellus Smith, Jr. and the late Sandra “Sandy” (Cochran) Smith. Mark graduated from Zanesville High School before going on to attend Central State as well as Ohio University Zanesville. Mark went on to work for Lowe’s for many years before he began battling his health issues.
Mark was a sports enthusiast. He loved talking and watching sports, especially college football and college basketball. He also enjoyed coaching flag football for multiple years. Mark was an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines.
Mark loved to make people laugh and reminisce about his past with his family and friends.
He is survived by, to cherish the memories of his life, the love of his life of almost 30 years, Lori (Brock) Smith, of Columbus, Ohio; four children, Marcellus Goins, of Zanesville, Tyler (Heather) Goins, Zanesville, Lucretia Smith, of Zanesville and Travon Smith, of Columbus, Ohio; his father, Marcellus (Sundra) Smith, Jr., of Alabama; sisters Shaenaka Smith-Beamon, of Alabama, Sonja Smith, of Alabama; brother-in-law, Troy (Susan) Brock; sister-in-law, Michelle (Mike) Brock Norman; nephews, Anthony Smith and Austin (Sarah) Brock; Nieces, Jasmine Beamon, Abigail “Abbi” Brock and Kylan Brock; four grandchildren, Aydric Goins, Nevaeh Wade, Mariah Churchill and Jaxson Goins; best friends, Ronald Harris and Greg (Kim) Daniels; uncles and aunts, Alvin Cochran, Anthony Cochran, Timothy Smith, Orvella (Bill) Romine and Sheyla Smith; as well as a host of cousins and friends.
In addition to his mother Mark is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Marcellus Smith, Sr., and Viola Smith; father-in-law, Steve Brock; brother-in-law, Todd Brock; grandparents, Pernell and Magdalene, Cochran; sister, Stephanie Smith; uncles, Theodore Cochran, Parnell “Butch” Cochran and Donald Smith; aunts, Priscilla Dungee, Marcella Gibson Reece and Pauletta Cochran; cousins, Nelvina Edwards, Tony Gibson, Michael Cochran, Shawn Novert; grandmother-in-law, Betty Dodson; and best friend Jeff Harris.
You may call on the family Friday, September 11, 2026 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., with funeral service to follow at 6 p.m., at Burrell Funeral Services in Zanesville. Per the family’s wishes cremation has been chosen. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
