Bringing Basketball Back

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Gus Macker organization is finalizing the contractual details that are needed to bring tournament basketball back to Zanesville.   

The contract signing and deposit transaction was expected to take place last week but has been delayed. Gus Macker Zanesville Committee Executive Chairman Dominique Proctor announced that a committee meeting, which was held with the tournament organization has officially established July 10th and 11th, 2027 as the official dates for the Zanesville tournament.

“We had a Zoom meeting with HQ and… going over the process because there was a potential that we would not get those dates and so that meeting was to kind of solidify that. Two of the cities, one in Kentucky and one in Michigan, they chose different times. And so that opened us up with July 10th and 11th, along with Norwich, New York,” Proctor said.

The Zanesville Macker committee has come a long way since its inception. It has brought the community together in establishing a successful structure, which has already organized the financial backing, obtained a viable location and garnered volunteers who are passionate about next year’s event.  

“So, just waiting on the contract to develop and sent over, which we’re hoping this week,” Proctor said. “And then once we review it, we’ll just do a public signing. We’re going to have it at OUZ/Zane State and YMCA Campus. The mayor will be present. Some of my committee members will be present, along with the facility directors and deans will be present for that major milestone.”

Proctor is aiming to register 250, three-player-teams for next summer’s event and online registration to enter the Zanesville tournament will begin in January.
