ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week’s Dog of the Week has little legs but a big heart. Meet Andrea! She’s a terrier mix who loves people but is selective with dogs. So the Muskingum County Sheriff’s K-9 Adoption Center recommends bringing your dog for a meet-and-greet if you would like to add her to your family. K-9 Adoption Center volunteer, Doug McQuaid, shares what they’ve learned about Andrea.

“She can be very chill, as they say from the volunteers, but then also be very playful,” McQuaid said. “Keeps a very clean kennel, which is also great for a new adopter, takes treats nicely, will actually sit for them as well, knows a few other commands. Walks well on a leash. We feel like she needs to go for a walk daily. So, with that being said, maybe a little more of an active family, maybe older kids. Someone that’s active and just likes to do different things and take a do along with them.”

McQuaid says that with the weather still breaking into the high 80’s, it’s important to remember your four-legged friends and to help keep them cool.

“I feel like we have another heat week coming at us and we always want to be very mindful of our pets. Heat is very detrimental to our pets as well. Realize the water heats up quickly but if at all possible, change the water as much as you can. And maybe bring them in the house where they can be cool for a little while,” McQuaid said. “A lot of times you find out they really enjoy just being with you. So, with that being said, you know, just make sure that your possibly taking a little extra care of our pets this week. ”
