Effie DeVolld
Effie A. DeVolld, born in Piedmont, Ohio, 2-11-29. The daughter of Maywood and Mabel VanFossen, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at Countryview Assisted Living on Wednesday evening, September 16th, 2026.
Effie had been a resident of Countryview since March of 2026. Effie resided in the Village of Old Washington with her husband, Jack L. DeVolld, from 1969 until his passing in 2020. She remained in her house until October of 2025.
Effie was a faithful and very active member of the Old Washington Presbyterian Church for 73 years, serving as a church deacon on several occasions and was always willing to help with any and all church functions. She looked forward to attending church every Sunday and especially enjoyed fellowship hour after church with her church family. (She had several of her church family trained to keep her decaf coffee cup filled!!)
Effie was a long-time member of the Centerville Weyer Lodge #515 Eastern Star, where she held many positions.
Effie loved her house in Old Washington. She loved being able to watch the kids on the playground, having fun, and also sitting on her back porch watching the birds, especially the purple martins.
Effie’s work career took her to the American Restaurant (where she worked with her friend JoAnn Fadorsen) to the Baptist Church as secretary to March Electric. Then on to a long career at NCR, until they moved out and as she put it, “forced her to retire!!”
After retiring, she made a career change to watching (spoiling) her 3 grandsons, Michael, Anthony & Weston. She took great joy in getting them off to school with the breakfasts of their choice every morning.
She also was one of the best pie and cookie bakers around!! She always kept cookies in the freezer in the garage, with garage door open, so kids playing at playground could just come over and get in the freezer for a 2-pack of cookies!!!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband of 69 years, Jack DeVolld. She was also preceded by her sister, Violet VanFossen; brothers Lloyd (Elma) VanFossen, Joe (Mickey) VanFossen, Harold (Phyllis) Van VanFossen, nephew Max VanFossen, niece Luann Davis, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Dale and Barbara Davis.
Effie is survived by her son, Steve (Amy) DeVolld; daughter Cheryl Babcock (Tom Fletcher); grandsons Michael (Kate) DeVolld, Anthony (Stacie) DeVolld and Weston (Pamela) DeVolld.
Great-grandchildren: Natalie DeVolld, Audrey DeVolld, Wesley DeVolld, Jaxson DeVolld, Aaralynn DeVolld, Rogan DeVolld, Payton Bond, Nolan DeVolld. Her nephews and nieces who gave her purpose: David Davis, Gwen Fasssinger, Jeff Davis, Debbie Davis, Lynne (Howard) Lincoln, John (Dolli) VanFossen, Judy (Scott) Beichler, Karen Selby, Diane (Rick) Bamfield. Debbie Marshall, Denise Donaldson, Dave (Judy) DeVolld, Janet VanFossen, Sue VanFossen. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dave (Erin Sue) DeVolld.
Steve and Cheryl want to especially thank Countryview Assisted Living, Adrianne Paden, Shannon Bennett, Tori Curtis and the “Entire” Staff of nurses, aides, cooks!! They provided our Mom with amazing love, care, respect, and dignity for the final 7 months!!
Also special thanks to Connie Dunlap for being such a great friend to Mom!!
Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 10am to 12pm with services beginning at 12pm. Pastor Wes Jones will officiate with burial to follow in Old Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Washington Presbyterian Deacons or the Old Washington Village Park and Playground Division.
