Dillon State Park Renovates Beach Facility

NASHPORT, Ohio – State and local officials gathered to celebrate a $4.1 million investment into our area parks with a ribbon cutting ceremony. 

Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Mary Mertz discussed the improvements that are being made at Dillon State Park and the importance of making recreational opportunities easily accessible for all.

“Here we are at the beach, where we’ve made a lot of improvements,” Mertz said. “So a couple of years ago, we got a brand new inclusive playground, so that has been so well received. We decided we need to invest in the rest of the area. A beautiful splashpad, a new picnic pavilion, revamped restrooms, we have rebuilt our sports courts. So now we have pickleball courts, resurfaced tennis courts, a handball court. We think we have all the recreational amenities.”

Dillon State Park Manager Dave Finley explained how the renovations to the park’s beach facilities add greater appeal to a nearby recreational destination.    

“The improvements we’ve done here at the park will benefit all people, but we’re improving our accessibility allowing all people of all ages and abilities to recreate here at our park. The new splashpad, our bathrooms are now all ADA accessible. We’re trying to improve accessibility and inclusiveness throughout the park wherever we possibly can,” Finley said.

Students from the Muskingum County Starlight School were also on hand to help celebrate the many ADA accessibilities that are incorporated into the park’s new features.
