The park dedication in South Zanesville showcases what the renamed park has to offer
SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Village of South Zanesville celebrated new improvements to its local park , with a dedication ceremony aimed at bringing the community together and highlighting the park’s growing list of amenities.
One of the newest additions unveiled during the event was a brand-new park sign. Village officials also celebrated the transformation of the park’s former tennis court into a fully renovated pickleball court.
The improvements are part of the village’s continued effort to renovate and expand the park, creating a better outdoor experience for residents and visitors of all ages.
Taylor Bennett, fiscal officer for the Village of South Zanesville, said the event was about more than simply celebrating the village’s latest projects.
“The purpose of was to bring the community together,” Bennett said, adding that the village hoped to draw attention to the area and encourage people from throughout the surrounding community to visit the park.
Bennett said the new pickleball courts have already generated excitement and are expected to be a popular addition.
The projects have also been made possible through support from local businesses, sponsors and village employees.
“We never do anything on our own,” Bennett said. “We have amazing contributors and sponsors.”
Among those contributors is Straker, which Bennett identified as one of the largest contributors to the village’s projects so far. Bennett also credited numerous small businesses and village employees for helping make the improvements possible.
The dedication ceremony also featured activities for families throughout the day, including a bounce house, face painting, snow cones and a chili cook-off through the United Way.
Those activities helped the village accomplish one of its main goals for the event: creating a fun and welcoming experience for local children and families.
Bennett said the park’s quiet setting makes it an ideal place for families to spend time outdoors.
“It makes a difference if there’s a safe place where you can take your kids and just let them go,” Bennett said. “I think that’s really the most important thing.”
She added that the park offers a secluded environment with plenty of shade trees and little traffic, making it a place where people of all ages can relax and enjoy the outdoors.
The latest improvements build on the village’s recent investment in the park. South Zanesville added a new playground last year, and village officials say more additions and improvements are planned in the future.
With the new sign, renovated pickleball courts and additional projects on the horizon, the village is continuing its effort to make the park a destination for families and outdoor recreation in the community.
