Treat yourself to a night out in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – On Friday you can tumble out of bed and stumble to The Barn and Bogey’s Tavern in remembrance of Dolly Parton.

Friday is Dolly Parton Day and the Muskingum County Literacy Council has teamed up with two local establishments to raise funds for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Imagination Library program has been in Muskingum for six year bringing free monthly books to children up to the age of 5 years old.

“So if people would like to honor Dolly tomorrow, they can go to The Barn or Bogey’s, have a nice dinner, a meal and a drink, and maybe they might want to make a contribution to honor Dolly’s legacy on 9-2-5 day,” said Becky Hill, the Muskingum County Literacy Council’s treasurer. “It’s just an opportunity with two venues in our community and it would also help us continue to bring books to Muskingum County.”

While Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library selects the monthly book and provides the infrastructure through book ordering systems, the Muskingum County Literacy Council pays for the books. That’s an annual cost of around $50,000

“We bring over 3,800 books to our community every month and we’re able to purchase these books at a discount through the Dolly Parton Foundation. So they are free to the children and it is helping to increase our kindergarten readiness, it’s getting kids excited about reading because they get a book in the mail every month,” Hill said. “It reminds parents to read to them and it’s just really an honor to have this program in our community. We’re very fortunate ”
