EPA: Spill at Quasar Energy Group Contained

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency says an area company had a valve malfunction on a tank overnight and that has resulted in a large spill of bio-solids liquid. It happened at Quasar Energy Group at 6400 Maysville Pike. E-M-A Executive Director Jeff Jadwin says the incident happened within the property of the company. The company’s website says they convert food waste, manure and crop waste into bio-gas that can be used as electricity or thermal heat or compressed natural gas. Jadwin says there is no impact on the nearby Maysville Regional Water District plant. Jadwin says Quasar is contracting with a company to come in and clean up the spill. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency says the spill was contained in an onsite retention pond and did not reach any waters of the state. The E-P-A says no violations occurred and no citations will be issued. ( Editor: the original picture with this story was a viewer submitted photo)
