Health Commissioner’s retirement party celebrates 22 years of leadership

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – After 22 years as the health commissioner of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department, Corey Hamilton is ready for retirement.
The department held a retirement party for Hamilton on Tuesday in downtown Zanesville. As health commissioner, Hamilton has been responsible for the overall management and operation of the health department.
“…it’s been a constant adventure. It’s always something new and I’m really happy with what we’ve been able to achieve as a public health department. And especially want to thank our community for the, the support we’ve always had, particularly with our levy campaigns. That gives us the necessary funding to try to help our community be the healthiest place to live, work and play,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton says the first thing she plans to do when she retires is to catch up on some major house cleaning. After that, she says that she sees a lot of opportunities on the horizon.
“We have seven grandchildren and have one on the way and so I want to spend as much time with them as possible and eventually we’ll be wanting to do some traveling too,” Hamilton said. “So, lots of things on the horizon and of course there are so many organizations in this community that I want to volunteer for that, you know, just need some extra people to come in and help every day. So, I’ll be looking forward to that as well.”
The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department’s deputy health director, Kylie Jones, will be taking over the position as health commissioner on Nov. 29. Hamilton says that she has every faith in Jones and will be offering support from afar.
