Genesis and CareSource reach an agreement for continued in-network care

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – On August 31, Genesis HealthCare System announced that it will end current contracts with several Medicare Advantage and Medicaid insurance providers unless new terms were reached.
Genesis announced today, in a press release, that a deal has been reached with CareSource. The agreement will allow CareSource Medicaid and Next Generation MyCare Ohio Plan members to continue having in-network access to Genesis HealthCare Systems in 2027.
“We’re pleased to share that Genesis HealthCare System and CareSource have reached an agreement for Genesis to remain an in-network provider for CareSource Ohio members for calendar year 2027,” said Matt Perry, president and CEO of Genesis Healthcare System. “We want to thank and recognize CareSource leadership for working collaboratively with us to craft an agreement that puts patients first and strengthens our mutual ability to serve our community. We value our renewed relationship with CareSource and are ready to move forward together to care for our community.”
Genesis will be out-of-network if you have a Medicare Advantage plan with UnitedHealthcare and Medical Mutual of Ohio after Jan. 1 unless they reach new agreements. The decision follows two years of increasing denials and payment takebacks for care that Genesis doctors determined patients needed and Genesis provided. Commercial employer-sponsored insurance for working families is not affected. This also does not affect any traditional Supplemental Medicare/Medigap plans.
Genesis is providing free informational sessions to the public about how to navigate the possible changes that will happen if agreements are not reached with UnitedHealthcare and Medical Mutual of Ohio.
