ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week’s dog of the week is a survivor, a sweet heart, and is looking for a foster home. Cardi is a 1-year-old terrier mix and weighs about 45 pounds.

Cardi does well with other dogs and Robin McQuaid, a K-9 Adoption Center volunteer, tells us about the difficult journey she’s gone through.

“Cardi did come in as a stray, we suspect that she was hit by a car. She had three pelvis fractures and a femur fracture. She underwent surgery on Friday, Oct. 30 and is currently being fostered by one of the kennel masters. She will be ready for adoption once she is all healed up,” McQuaid said.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s K-9 Adoption Center is looking for volunteers. You can volunteer routinely or whenever you have the time. You must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by a legal guardian. McQuaid says there are other ways to help out that don’t require you to visit the adoption center.

“Another part of volunteering is fostering. So, we are currently in need of a foster for Cardi. She’s going to need a long-term foster, somebody who’s very knowledgeable and you would have to stop out and speak with the kennel masters to get updated information about how to do that,” McQuaid said. “Fostering also gives us a lot of information. If you have a dog in your home that fostering, you’re able to share many different things with us and in turn, when people come to adopt, we can share with them.”
