ZANESVILLE, Ohio-  The United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties 211 call center received over 700 calls for the month of November.

The largest amount of calls were food related, which is common. When food calls come in, the United Way is able to relay the people in need to organizations such as Christ Table or Salvation Army. Community Impact Director Becky Clawson said many Christmas calls also contributed to the number of 211 calls.

“Those are typically looking for programs like angel tree and those kind of things. Maybe a Christmas food need, so we send those to the appropriate programs that can meet those needs in the community. Like our number one referral in Muskingum County was the Salvation Army and that is because of those Christmas calls and the food needs,” said Clawson.

Also, Tax season is coming and United Way can help people file their taxes. Clawson said people are already taking advantage of this resource.

“They started taking appointments on December 1st. There are about three dozen people who have called and taken advantage of those early appointments and got their name on the schedule. So, I encourage everyone to do that. And you know that this is taken care of. If your New Years resolution is to get your taxes done, we’ve got you covered,” said Clawson.

Clawson said 211 is not only a resource for food, Christmas needs, and tax help, but you can access volunteer opportunities there and other job and families services in all three counties. If you would like more information about 211, you can contact Clawson at United Way.
