West Muskingum feeds cancels January produce market
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- One high school monthly tradition has been postponed due to severe weather conditions.
For the last two years, West Muskingum High School has partnered with The Mid-Ohio Food Bank to put on “West Muskingum Feeds,” a produce market to help those in need in the local community.
“Unfortunately due to the forecast weather, our partner The Mid-Ohio Food Bank has cancelled all deliveries for this weekend and we’ll be unable to hold our January produce market. This is done more with the decision based on safety of our drivers and people who might be waiting in the cold,” said Conrad Wilkins, Site Director for West Muskingum Feeds.
Although there are 15 food pantries in Muskingum County, the produce market has become something that many are dependent upon.
“One thing to keep in mind is that we understand that it might create a shortage of food in the area. If you’re in need of emergency food assistance, call 211 and they should be able to make arrangements to at least get you a little bit of food to get through the week, and if you’re not assigned to a food pantry in The Muskingum County Hunger Network, call 211 so they can make that assignment,” said Wilkins.
If air temperatures and weather permits, the produce market will be back up and running on February 3rd. The market is set to take place every first Saturday in 2018, with the exception of September, it’ll take place the 3rd Saturday due to the labor day weekend.
