Lavella F. McElhaney, 91 of Zanesville, died 5:41 PM, Friday, January 5, 2018, at Genesis Hospital following a short illness. She was born Monday, July 26, 1926, in Zanesville, the daughter of George & Elsie (Carrol) Sims. She married Neil M. McElhaney on Saturday, February 28, 1959, who preceded her in death on Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

 

Lavella was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1058, and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 29. She was employed in various positions throughout her life and was a homemaker. In her younger days she was an avid bowler and in her later years greatly enjoyed the slots.

 

Lavella is survived by one son: Steve (Phyllis) McElhaney of Philo; three daughters: Karen McElhaney of Zanesville, Gayle (Kevin) Kozak of Pickerington and Linda (Don) Butcher of Junction City; nine grandchildren: Nelson (Heather) McElhaney & Adam (Jenny) McElhaney both of Duncan Falls; Collin Sims, Jordan & Kiara Kozak of Pickerington, Donnie Butcher, Jr., Lavella Henry, Kim (Reno) Fisher & Ramona Chapman all of Junction City; fourteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and two sisters: Ladonna Gard of Heath & Pamela (James) Chidester of South Zanesville and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Lavella was preceded in death by her husband: Neil M. McElhaney who died October 7, 2015; three brothers: George, Elmer & Bill Sims.
