Mathis Sentenced to 18 Years In Prison

A Zanesville man was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years in prison by Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge Mark Fleegle. The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office says Michael Mathis was convicted after a jury trial Tuesday for attacking a stranger in the BP gas station on the Maysville Pike in November. The prosecutor’s office says Mathis used a metal flashlight to strike his victim and then fled the scene and he was later identified by his distinctive devil tattoos and tracked down at his home, where the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office K-9 encouraged him to surrender. Mathis’ sentence is mandatory time and he must serve every single day and not eligible for early release. Assistant Prosecutor John Litle says “we’re very satisfied with the sentence hand down by Judge Fleegle. Everyone in Muskingum County is safer with Michael Mathis in prison.”
