Melting Snow Not Yet Affecting Ice Jams

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency issues another update on the Ice Jams on the Muskingum River. E-M-A Director Jeff Jadwin says the situation is being monitored by his department and numerous other agencies and “it does NOT appear that the melting snow Saturday has affected the river level at this time.” Numerous Local, State and Federal Partners continue to monitor the situation. There are currently Ice Jams in Coshocton and Morgan Counties that are also causing concern. Jadwin says “if you are going to go sightseeing near the river to see the Ice Jams remember that the water was up and ice has formed a distance from the normal water’s edge and there are hazards that you may not see. Anyone that lives along the river needs to be conscious of fast rising water. This past weekend the water rose about 4 feet in less than 30 minutes. This could happen again if a different jam happens at a different location along the river or if the snow melt or rain is greater than expected.”
