City Street and Sanitation Department is working to fill potholes

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It’s officially pothole season and the City of Zanesville Street and Sanitation Divisions are on the job filling the holes in.

Potholes are notorious for damaging tires and suspension systems on cars during the winter. Michael West, a Street Foreman for the City of Zanesville, said crews are working to patch the holes up.

“We’re getting a lot of reports on potholes. We’re trying to take care of them. We’re doing the main drags first and then we’re going to our secondary streets. And then we’ll be doing alleys.”

West said the Foremen use a leaf blower to remove the water from the hole, then they remove any debris, and fill the hole with cold mix. Potholes tend to be a pain for drivers and cause them lots of money, but they’re hard to avoid in snowy climates.

“Potholes form by the water table being high. Freezing and thawing. Finds a weak spot. High volume of traffic. They just come out.”

West has one request for motorists as the crews work to fill the holes and that is to stay back and give them space.
