Chief Gates: Quick Action Averts Disaster

Some quick action by the New Concord Fire Department averted a potentially explosive situation this past weekend. Chief Brent Gates says just after 2:00 am Saturday his crews were called to State Route 83 near Norfield Road for a tanker truck fire. The chief says a tire caught on fire and quick action was needed since the truck was carrying over 8000 gallons of ethanol. Gates says the flames were quickly extinguished and a short time later the fuel was loaded onto another tanker. The road stayed closed until around 8:00 am. There were no injuries reported. Gates say the call for help came in at 2:03 am and crews were on the scene by 2:10 am.
