Maysville girls primed for long tourney run

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The second seeded Maysville Lady Panthers are hoping that their season comes to an end in Columbus in the state tournament.

So far they’ve had no problems in postseason play. Maysville opened up the tournament with a 76-13 win over East Liverpool and then followed that up with a sectional title by taking down Indian Valley 80-25.

Wednesday they start district play with a talented Dover team. The Tornadoes finished the regular season 14-8 and in third place in the ECOL.

Maysville freshman Bailee Smith know that Dover will be a tough out.

“I think [Dover’s] defense is really good. We are going to have to be really smart defensively. We have to attack the basket like we normally do,” said Smith.

The district semi finals is where Maysville’s run came to an end last season. Head coach Pat Miller said they’ve relied on their senior leadership this season to make it this far.

“Our seniors have come in and led these girls so hard this year. We have no juniors. We’re left with freshman and sophomores. These seniors have done a good job with that,” said Miller.

Dover and Maysville play Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Cambridge High School.
