ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Spring is slowly but surely creeping up on us which means gardeners will soon be able to tend their gardens.

In anticipation of the warmer weather the Muskingum Valley Garden Society is hosting its 15th annual “Spring Fever” Home Gardening Symposium. The event will feature guest speakers talking about several topics. Attendees will even learn how to grow shiitake mushrooms.

“The event is for garden enthusiasts, outdoor enthusiasts, anybody that wants to shake off the winter blues and get itchin for spring fever they can come out and see us,” said Brian McLoughlin the Founder and President of the Muskingum Valley Garden Society.
“We’re going to treat them to a great day of gardening education and fun. They’ll also have a wonderful catered breakfast and lunch provided to us by Edie’s Bakery and Deli. So it’s really for all ages.”

In addition to the symposium, the Garden Society is gearing up for spring planting. The Society is looking for sponsors and volunteers for their planting containers.

“The containers, I think, have really added a lot of color to downtown. There’s so much brick and mortar down and little by the little the businesses are beginning to plant their own planters again which is pretty much what our goal was just to help beautification here throughout the community,” said Darlene Turner a Volunteer at the Muskingum Valley Garden Society.

Pre-registration is $30 and open until Thursday at 6 p.m. After that tickets are $40. The event will take place at the OUZ -Zane State Campus Center on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. You can find more information on the Garden Society website.
