Ieuter poised to take over Muskie football program

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Muskingum’s new head football coach is still finding his way around campus, but says he thinks he can turn around the Muskie football program.
Erik Ieuter was selected two weeks ago to replace Al Logan as Muskingum’s new head football coach. He comes from a long coaching background in which he’s served at just about every level.
Ieuter played at Division III Albion College in Michigan. After college he spent 11 years coaching at the DII level at Michigan Tech. Most recently, he spent the 2017 season on the Florida Gators’ staff coaching quarterbacks.
Ieuter said he loves the competition level that comes with DIII football.
“These guys aren’t on scholarship. They are playing because they love playing the game. Football is a tough game, but it’s a great game. The guys that are going to be out there are going to be the guys that love to play football. I wasn’t a great player I just loved to play the game,” said Ieuter.
The former Albion Britons inherits a Muskingum program that has been struggling. They are coming off a season in which they won just two games. Their last .500 season came in 2003 and they haven’t had a winning season in 23 years.
Ieuter knows it will be an uphill battle, but he hopes to end those streaks.
“We are always going to have high expectations. Right now we are going to work on getting better every single day. I feel like I have a good plan. I’ve been a part of multiple championship programs and I know what it takes,” said Ietuer.
Spring football practice will start for Muskingum in the coming weeks and their first game will be Sept. 1 when they travel to Waynesburg.
