Ieuter, Muskies optimistic during spring football practice
NEW CONCORD, Ohio – It’s been a very busy month for Muskingum new head football coach Erik Ieuter.
Two weeks ago he was named as Al Logan’s replacement. That didn’t give him much time to get ready for spring football which started in April.
“I don’t know [the players] and they don’t know me. But we are getting to know each other a lot here,” said Ieuter.
Spring practice looks very different at the Division III level. The Muskies will get 16 days that they can get out on the field. However, there’s no pads, no full contact, and no spring game to wrap things up.
So how much can a head coach tell about his team?
“We are just focused on the fundamentals and getting better at the little things. There’s a lot that we can learn and get better at,” said Ieuter.
It’s a Muskingum team that was very competitive in many of their games last year, but finished with an overall record of just 2-8. They do return quarterback Brody Hahn, who played in all ten games as a freshman. He said he’s never gone through a coaching change in his football career.
“We are all really excited. Everyone wants to show the new coaches what they have to offer and really make a good impression,” said Ieuter.
The Muskies last spring practice will be April 25 and they’ll kickoff the season in 150 days at Waynesburg.
