John E. Hina, 80, of Roseville, passed away due to Parkinson’s disease on June 21, 2018 at his home under Hospice care.

John was born to the late Edgar and Beulah (Barringer) Hina on December 14, 1937.  He graduated from Roseville High School and passed the State of Ohio Engineers and Surveyors board license to become a Registered Engineer in 1975.  He married Rose M. (Bash) Hina on April 8, 1956.  He worked as an engineer for the Ohio Power Company for 18 years, Ohio Ferro Alloy for 2 years and Oxford Oil Company for 22 years where he retired in 2000.  Additionally, John provided engineering consulting services to many Ohio oil & gas companies for over 30 years and is a retired member of the Ohio Professional Engineers.  He was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roseville where he served on council, finance committee, Sunday school teacher, and youth advisor.  He also served on Roseville’s City council and the Board of Public Affairs.  He also served on many committees for the Franklin Local School District and includes the Sam Hatfield Stadium Committee.  He was honored in 2011 with the Franklin Local School District Alumni Wall Honor.  He was an active member of the Roseville Historical Society

John is survived by his wife of 62 years Rose, sons Brian (Susan) Hina of London, OH and Brad (Cindy) Hina of Canonsburg, PA, brothers Roy Hina and Gerald (Linda) Hina, sister in-laws Doris Hina, Rheta Powell, and Thelma Bash, and grandchildren Brittney Hina of Los Angeles, CA and Blake Hina of Canton, OH. 

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Bob Hina, brother and sister in law Don and Evelyn Hina, sister in law Myra Hina, brother in law and sister in law David and Ruth Bash, brother in law Les Bash, brother in law Jim Powell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 29, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roseville with Reverend Dr. William Haggis, officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home at 5765 Gladstone Dr., White Cottage, OH 43791 and from 10:30 to 11 am on Friday at the church.Memorials may be given to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, Roseville Historical Society and St. Paul Lutheran Church.The family of John wishes to extend our sincere thanks to family, friends, church members and Genesis Hospice Care.To sign online guest book please visitwww.williamthompsonandsonfuneralhome.com
