TECHCORPShack

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zane State College will be hosting a hackathon coding event for high school students who may be interested in computer science and technology.
TECH CORPS and AT&T are sponsoring the event on Friday, November 16th and Saturday, November 17th. It is for all high school students and they will compete against students from Columbus and Dayton as well to create an app that deals with the opioid epidemic.
“They’ll be able to network with different professionals so if they are interested in pursuing a career in technology they’ll have the resources there with the professionals and as well as the experience with the coding,” Hawkins said.
Whitley Hawkins, who works for the non-profit organization TECH CORPS, said students can expect an introduction to the MIT app inventor and then they will break out into teams to deal with the opioid epidemic and translate it into the app they will create. BJ Smith, with AT&T, said this will be good for students future careers and employers.
“The focus of the AT&T foundation is on education and we know that jobs of today require some level of computer skills but that’s going to be even more so in the future,” Smith said.
There will be cash prizes for every student who is on the winning team and the deadline to apply is Wednesday, October 10th. Students can go to TECH CORPS website where you will find the link to the application as well as more information on volunteering for the event.
