Flu Shots

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The fever, the aches, the pains…no one likes having the flu and with Fall just around the corner its time for annual flu vaccines.
The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department will be holding four flu clinics throughout the month of October. The Director of Communicable Disease Prevention Tiffany McFee said its important for everyone who is able to get their flu shot. She said it not only protects them against the illness but helps protect those who might not be able to get the vaccine.
“There are individuals that can not receive the flu vaccine, whether they have a reaction to it or their immune system is attacked or they’re too young,” said McFee. “So those of us that are healthy individuals, to be able to get it, will protect those individuals that are not able to receive the vaccine.”
McFee said their flu shot clinics also help to serve as an annual emergency preparedness exercise. She said its a chance for them to have a plan in place should a large number of people need to be vaccinated.
“So if something were to happen in the community where we needed to vaccinate a large portion of our population, this is a way that we practice with our partners to ensure that we are able to handle the situation and make sure that everything gets taken care of the way that it should,” said McFee.
McFee said all people need to do to receive the vaccine is to come to one of the clinics and bring a photo ID and insurance card. For more information about the October flu shot, clinics call the health department or visit them online.
