ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Slips, trips, and falls are the most common everyday accidents.

and while Saturday might be the first day of Autumn, it’s also National Falls Prevention Awareness Day. Michelle Francisco from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation said that anyone of any age is at risk of falling.

“We’re famous for being multitaskers,” said Francisco. “We’re famous for driving and maybe taking a look at our phone but more and more often we’re hearing about people who have accidents as a result of walking and texting.”

Francisco said the best way to avoid a fall is to take things one at a time and to stay alert. She said those more prone to falls should always stay aware of their surroundings, take it slow, and be sure to always use railings when going up or down the stairs.

“Now if a fall does occur, it’s important that you not panic and once you are sure you haven’t hurt yourself too seriously, safely rise and get help,” said Francisco

Francisco said for more information about fall prevention or other safety topics you can visit their website.
