Dedication of the Blue Ribbon Quilt Barn painting

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A building at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds now looks a little different.
The Blue Ribbon Quilt Barn painting was dedicated Saturday afternoon to the fair board. Treasurer Dave Kreis said the idea for a mural on the side of the Coliseum came about last year, but that they didn’t know what they wanted it to be. That’s when he remembered a quilt made by his aunt.
“My aunt Marjorie Bowden and cousin Beverly Mitchel made this blue ribbon quilt from all the blue ribbons they’d won over the years, and they made that quilt probably been back in the early 90s, and we decided to use that as our mural on the barn,” said Kreis.
Marjorie Bowden was someone who loved going to the Muskingum County Fair and was an exhibitor there for many years. Kreis said its overwhelming to see the design painted on the Coliseum.
“I’m overwhelmed, you know, with how its turned out and everything, it looks beautiful out there,” said Kreis. “I wish my aunt was here to see it today, she’d be so proud.”
Kreis said the fairgrounds is all about family, community, and heritage and that the painting and the dedication really represent all of those things.
