Farm City Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Who are your local farmers?
This was the theme for the 24th annual Farm City Day. Organization Director from the Farm Bureau, Kari Burkey, said the day is focused around bridging the gap between farmers and consumers.
“We just feel that as people are further and further removed from agriculture, there’s just that generational gap that we want to be able to let people see where their food is raised, where it comes from, and who are those local people who are out there doing that,” said Burkey.
Burkey said the event started many years ago with bus trips out to different farms, but that as times have changed they decided to bring it to the fairgrounds.
“So bringing as much farm to the fairgrounds and getting people here is a way that we can bring them all together and have that interaction and the farmer/consumer being able to meet and talk to people,” said Burkey.
Burkey said they had thirteen different farms there as well as other displays from around the area. She said that from the free food samples to the tractor rides there was a little something for everyone.
