The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office reminds passengers to refrain from distracting the driver

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – With October quickly approaching, that means homecoming season for high school students.
Sheriff Matt Lutz said the safe communities grant has allowed them to make public service announcements on traffic safety awareness in high schools. He wants to remind teens to be extra considerate as passengers in vehicles.
“Passengers should, you know, refrain from horse playing, they should be refraining from doing large movements in the car from going front seat to back seat type of thing,” explained Sheriff Lutz.
The Sheriff’s Office will be paying close attention to seat belt and traffic violations. Sheriff Lutz said homecoming is an exciting time for high schoolers, he just wants to make sure they are getting there safely.
“A lot of common sense things that sometimes kids need to be reminded of and to make sure that they know it’s really important for them to get to where they’re going in a safe manner and everything they do in the car can affect the driver,” said Sheriff Lutz.
Sheriff Lutz also wants to remind parents to make sure your children are in the correct car seat depending on their weight and height. For more information, you can visit nhtsa.gov.
