National Guard Recognizes Employer Support

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Having support from your civilian employer while being in the military means a lot to service men and women.

The Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve recognizes employers for going above and beyond the call of duty for supporting their service members. Program Support Specialist, Eboni Williams-Sanko, said their main focus is to educate, advocate, mediate and recognize employers and military men and women.

“Because whenever a service member does come back from a deployment or from drill duty or from their annual training and let’s say that they get fired – I got fired for serving in the military? ESGR is here to make sure that those employers understand,” explained Williams-Sanko.

Williams-Sanko said the more service members, the merrier. They try to recognize great supervisors who are accommodating and understanding with their military employees and they advocate on behalf of the service member. She said they came to Zanesville to educate employers and bring awareness to the topic.

“We want to go to the smaller towns and build up the smaller businesses,” said Williams-Sanko. “As the Mayor was stating, there are over 700 businesses here and we want to make sure that every single one of those businesses are interested in hiring military and have the education about military.”

Williams-Sanko said employers would benefit from hiring a service man or woman – they would be getting someone drug free and a leader in different areas. For more information, you can visit esgr.mil.
