Big Brothers Big Sisters is asking for volunteers

Lunch Buddies Become Mentor

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Big Brothers Big Sisters is in need of volunteers.

They have 40 elementary students needing a lunch buddy to sit with them at school during their lunch hour between 11:30 and 12:30 p.m. Executive Director, Jennifer Masterson, said it’s crucial to provide kids with company and care during their down time at school.

“These kids really need the help having a caring adult that can spend some time with them, just going over what’s happening in their lives, working on activities that are all supervised by our school base coordinators,” said Masterson.

Masterson said they are looking for volunteers to go to Zane Grey Elementary on Thursday’s and Duncan Falls and Cambridge on Friday’s. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and will be interviewed with a screening and background check.

“This has a great impact on kids self confidence, on their readiness for school, on their relationship building and their academic performance,” explained Masterson.
