First day to sign up for FAFSA

CROOKSVILLE, Ohio – It is time for parents and students to start thinking about college and the necessary steps for financial aid.

Heather Sands Davis, the Director of Educational Services at Muskingum County Community Foundations and Scholarship Central, said this information is important to know if you are in high school planning to go to college.

“Today is the first day that students and families can complete the free application for federal student aid or the FAFSA as many of us know it as, for the 2019-20 school year,” Davis said. “A lot of people really think that is really far in advance but really we encourage students to do it now if they’re considering going to school or they’re currently enrolled in college and need to re-apply for federal aid for the next school year.”

Davis said she really wants to emphasize that applying for FAFSA should be free and you should do it as quickly as possible. Financial aid is not limited to just high school students, it can be a parent or a grandparent, whoever is interested in going to college.

“A lot of students they don’t realize what money is out there. So many students actually receive enough federal student aid to be able to pay for their college for free,” Davis said. “Others they receive enough to help support them to be able to go to school and then apply to local scholarships.”

This is the first step and is for anyone who is interested in going into school with the help of financial student aid. There are multiple ways to find out more information apply for FAFSA. There is a help night on October 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Muskingum University.
