Shimmying and Shaking

There was a whole lot of shimmying and shaking going on on at the Genesis Fitness Trail in an effort to raise money.

A group of women paid five dollars a piece to take part in a Zumba class. The proceeds going to the Genesis Fireflies who are raising funds for this year’s Light the Night walk that benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“At Genesis cancer is one of the diseases we offer treatment for and Leukemia and Lymphoma is a blood cancer,” said Genesis Fireflies Member Beth Chapman. “At Genesis we feel it’s important to be involved in the community for health concerns.”

Zumba is the latest fitness craze that blends Latin rhythms with easy to learn moves to help burn calories, sculpt and tone.

“Zumba is intermittent training which means that your heart rate gets high and then you have a song that brings your heart rate down a bit and you go back and forth between that and its supposed to burn more fat and calories by doing that,” explained Becky Weir program coordinator at Genesis Lifestyle and Fitness Center.

The Genesis Fireflies chose Zumba to help raise money because it’s a fun activity that many people want to try.

Along with the class a fifty-fifty drawing took place.
