Out with the Old
It’s out with the old and in with the new at the Muskingum County Opportunity Center.
Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act the agency is replacing 30 public access computers.
The work is being done by teens in the summer tech program, giving them hands on experience in installing equipment.
One of the summer tech workers plans on being a nurse when she gets older, but knows learning how to work with computers will help.
“If my computer gets shut down or something then I’m going to go through it and see what’s wrong with it,” said Summer Tech Program Kenya Ransom. “I won’t have to call anyone up.”
“It’s actually good practical experience for them. I think they’ll be a sense of pride when they get done,” said Bob Mercer Supervisor of the Muskingum County Opportunity Center.
Prior to the new computers Mercer says they were having trouble with units jumping off line so wireless hubs were also installed.
The Center’s old computers will be given to area churches and non profit organizations in Muskingum County.
