Pro Teaches Kids Some Soccer Moves
Some local kids are kicking it into high gear. Kolby’s Kicker, created by professional soccer player Kolby LaCrone, taught developmentally disabled kids a few tricks and kicks today. The clinic sponsored by The Miracle League was free for all participants. LaCrone says the kids played like champions.
“One day I just said you know I would love to give the developmentally disabled kids the opportunity to come out and play the game I have loved my entire life, and just spinning off that we had water bottles made for the kids and passed them out today and it has just been a great experience,” tells Lacrone of the Cleveland City Stars.
The entire field is handicap accessible and The Miracle League says they are happy to see the field being used. Even family members of the kids say they are amazed by the program.
“I got a letter today in the mail, I stopped at the post office, and there was a letter from one of the aunts that said ‘I never thought I would see my nephew in a wheelchair be able to do anything’ and she said ‘when I came to the field and saw that he could play ball it was really neat’ and that is what it is all about,” says Caribeth Legats of The Miracle League.
The fall baseball league is starting up soon and Legats says children are welcome to sign up.
“Any child is welcome to play baseball that couldn’t place baseball in a regulation league. That is the bottom, that is criteria, if you can’t play because of a disability you can play Miracle League ball.”
