Community Gives K-9 Almost $12,000

The community dug deep last Friday to help the Zanesville Police Department’s injured K-9 officer.

The Maple Avenue donation drive brought in nearly $12,000 to help pay for the medical care Bosco has needed since being shot.

“It just goes to show you that people have good hearts and they care about their community and it let’s us as police officers, not just me, and not just Bosco, but the police department as a whole know that the community is standing behind us,” says Officer Mike Schiele, Bosco’s partner.

Officer Schiele says he visited Bosco yesterday and he’s doing well. He says Bosco is having therapy three times a day and had to be moved to a normal cage after trying to jump out of his crib.

Chief Eric Lambes says medical bills have been more than $10,000 so far, and the community has raised double that since the shooting. The extra donations are needed since they do not know how long Bosco will be hospitalized.

“Bosco’s in good hands and there’s no concern about his future being altered or his care being hindered for lack of funds, the community has done wonders. We’re really glad we can let the doctor’s proceed as they see fit without concern with the finances,” says Lambes.

If Bosco is unable to return to his normal duties he will stay on the force as a public relations dog.
