Youth League Looks For Funding

A local youth league went before the Muskingum County Commissioners Thursday afternoon in search of funding.

The Greater Muskingum Pro-Youth Coalition has around 180 kids in their basketball league.

"We operate this basketball league, of course it is free of charge, to everybody that plays on a very slim budget and the county commissioners have supported us in the past as well as the city and we are here asking their help with our basketball league issue," says Howard Steward the Executive Director of the Zanesville Civic League.

Last year the commissioners gave the league $1,000 and the city gave $750. The money plus lots of donated time by referees and coaches made for a successful league. Sign ups are going on this month and play will begin in January.

"They can get applications at the Zanesville Civic League, 928 Jackson Street  or at the ZMHA Singer Center they can contact Bill Hollins over there and applications are available at those two spots," tells Stewart.

The commissioners say they support the league and will take a look at their budget to see how much money they have available to give.
