Cash For Clunkers Success?
Well, the numbers are in.
After a successful two months during the Cash for Clunkers program, local auto dealers are hoping to continue profitable sales throughout the holiday season.
"The car business in general had slowed down right before that and Cash for Clunkers actually gave us a good boost," said Dave Wallace, New Car Sales Manager of Dutro Ford in Zanesville. "A lot of people were out upgrading their older cars and looking for something more fuel efficient and taking advantage of the $4,500 dollars. It was good for us."
Wallace says immediately after Cash for Clunkers ended, the dealership saw a dip in sales during the month of September. He says sales are now about where they have been in the past and they are now looking to a busy holiday season.
"we’re trying to clear out all the 2009 models because the 2010s are coming in," he said. "Dealers want to clear out all their inventory for tax purposes by the end of the year so it’s always and excellent time, Christmastime."
Wallace says although the entire holiday season-from Thanksgiving until New Year’s is busy-the busiest time is between Christmas and New Year’s. He says that is the best time to get a great deal.
