Team Dominates the Turkey Bowl
A local flag football team has bragging rights, well, at least for a year.
Team Foxfire and team Pepsi battled it out on the Maysville High School football field for the turkey bowl championship. The turkey bowl is sponsored by the Avondale Youth Center and all proceeds go to their Christmas fund. The Avondale Youth Center helps around 65 kids and their families a year. Todd white-man with the foxfire team knows personally how important the youth center is to kids.
"It impacts me because I have several kids in our school that are at Avondale. It serves a great purpose in this community," says Todd Whiteman, the principal at Foxfire.
The Foxfire team says their strategy is to not get hurt, but a Pepsi player did suffer a knee injury. While the game got intense, both teams say they did it all for the kids.
"Anytime you can get people to come together to donate money for at-risk youth it is a win, win situation for everybody," tells Whiteman.
In the end, the Foxfire team won 21 to 0. Their team name will go on a plaque on the trophy as the 1st Annual Turkey Bowl Champions. Organizers say the Turkey Bowl was a success and they hope to expand it next year.
